NEW YORK — Fall officially arrives on Monday, and this change in season approaches with a special nod here toward new women’s fashions. After all, women’s wear is the fastest-growing segment of the MLB.com Shop, constantly expanding with new styles for a gender that now accounts for half of all Major League Baseball fans at the ballparks.
Based on Thursday night’s Fields of Fashion runway event in Manhattan that featured several player wives among the many models, here are 15 of the hottest looks for Fall 2014 — and right into the holiday shopping season not far ahead:
Dooney & Bourke Satchel. From clutches to crossbody and shopper bags to iPad cases, this line has taken off at the Shop and will be all the rage for holiday shopping.
“I love the Dooney & Bourke bag,” said Amber Sabathia, wife of CC Sabathia, after modeling two outfits during the fashion show at the MLB Fan Cave. “I actually saw the beginning of the design process within the Yankees. I think it’s adorable how they take a purse that’s so known for its brand, a really good leather purse, but make it where you can take it to the ballpark. Most women are taking a little side bag that’s not so fashionable. I saw so many at the Welcome Back Dinner last spring, so you can take it from the baseball field all the way to galas. It goes both ways, from cocktail attire to baseball attire.”
Derek Jeter Replica Jersey. This Majestic Athletic pinstriped classic has the retirement patch on the left sleeve. Or maybe you’d rather have a Sonny Gray No. 51 A’s jersey? You can personalize any jersey for women at the Shop.
Cardinals Draft Choice Pullover Sweatshirt. This is from the ever-growing Touch by Alyssa Milano collection, and another great example is the Red Sox Audrey Tee with flourish pattern. The actress, humanitarian, author, mom and designer really paved the way for this whole explosion of women’s MLB attire, and while now expanded into all other sports, she’s a Dodgers season-ticket holder who relates to other fans.
“If they are going for a nice dinner or going to the game, women deserve to feel good in what they’re wearing,” Milano said. “I want women to feel good in Touch.”
Tigers French Terry Full Zip Hood. Under Armour is charging into the women’s apparel market, with supermodel Gisele Bundchen leading the way, and this is an example of the many new looks that manufacturer has brought as an MLB.com Shop newcomer. The Pirates Charged Cotton V-Neck Tee is another great example.
Royals Sterling Silver Charm and Leather Bracelet. This is from the Pandora Jewelry line and a version of this was on the left wrist of one of the models at the Fields of Fashion show.
Double Major Quilted Vest. Cutter and Buck has the perfect look for the Northern California climate, including this one in either white or orange. They’ve got it for A’s fans, too.
Phillies Victoria’s Secret PINK Full Zip Flag Hood. Erin Robertson, wife of Yankees closer David Robertson, was wearing the Yankees version of this in the runway show, over a PINK tee. That was her second outfit of the night. For her first . . .
’47 Brand Maxi Dress. When Erin hit the runway in this number from the hugely popular Shop partner, it may have been the coolest look of the entire show. This stretchy dress is 95 percent ring-spun combed cotton and 5 percent lycra, featuring a racer back and slightly flared hem. Add sunglasses and you’re ready for the beach, or wear it to a game.
“It was so comfortable, it was almost hard to take it off. It’s great, especially for a dress like that — that’s your whole outfit,” she said. “You don’t have to do much with it. It would be great for so many different occasions.”
Logo Charm Bangles by Alex and Ani. Victoria Young, wife of Mets outfielder Eric Young Jr., was among the models Thursday night and her wrist was teeming with multiple Alex and Ani items.
Dodgers Point After Hoody. G-III produced this gorgeous look, and that’s just a start. One of the models Thursday wore a curveball tee like this D-backs version, and we also love the Orioles Holy Pullover Sweatshirt.
“I really like what we’re doing in G-III for Her with some of the great bling looks, with the large rhinestone logos, and also in the Touch line with the some of the great burnouts,” said Eric Shapiro, G-III vice president. “But not just the traditional burnouts, the burnouts that have floral patterns and butterfly patterns, really unique stuff.”
Cubs Triblend Maternity Scoop Tee. Last month, Sharyn Ryan tweeted: “Brendan and I are so happy to announce that we have a little shortstop on the way.” On Thursday, the Yankee infielder’s wife was sporting this look by Soft as a Grape, in a Yankee version.
Alex Woo. These necklaces with team logo icons range from $177.99 for sterling silver to $897.99 for 14-karat yellow gold to $1,157.99 for diamond pave. Amber Sabathia had the interlocked “NYY” dangling from her neck at the show.
PLUS Size. Ensuring that there is something at the Shop for all women, this category has taken off, available in most of your favorite fashion lines. Just pick a team.
Nike Deep V-Neck Tee. This is a great October look for Angels fans. Of course, so is the brand-new American League West Division Champions Tee from Majestic Athletic. That’s part of the official celebration collection, so if your team is clinching, you’ve got some choices to make.
Nationals Pearl Watch by GameTime. The GameTime line has a wide variety of styles, and based on recent history, orders will be steady at the MLB.com Shop from now through holiday shopping season.
